As a World Champion Jiu Jitsu fighter I know what it takes to condition, prepare mentally and physically and win. I love seeing the fire that gets lit when a student competes for the first time!” Pedro Diaz, Owner

Tigers Lair Martial Arts is led by Pedro Diaz, the current World Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Pedro is a Goju-Ryu Karate (Shodan), Daito Ryu Japanese Jiu Jitsu (Nidan) and Judo (Shodan) Black Belt under Ruben Font. He began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2004 and is a 1st Degree Black Belt under Gustavo Dantas. Pedro is a long time practitioner of Martial Arts, going back to the 1970’s. He is now working hard to bring awareness to the community that Martial Arts is less about “fighting” and more about discipline, developing hard work ethics, and character.

Pedro is committed to working with kids to understand bullying and to help those that suffer with forms of Autism, ADD, and ADHD by providing a structured environment for them to excel.

Sports, Martial Arts and ADD/ADHD – Studies have shown marked improvements in children that participate in complex physical activities. It helps them to learn and practice self-control, build strength and coordination, and keep active minds focused.

Some young people are in their own world making it difficult to communicate with them. Martial arts creates an interest and focus bringing them out of their shell. We’ve had a lot of success, it is not a quick fix, it takes time but it works.”

The Grand Opening will be part of a Fall Festival with a pumpkin patch, face painting, Leonardo the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Martial Arts demonstrations, door prizes, “guess the pumpkins’ weight” and tickets to Disneyland. Please come join us as we celebrate our new location, and work hard in the community to build lasting relationships.

Bully Buster Program Provides Youth with Legs to Stand On

Local School Offers Free Program

Gilbert, AZ – Practicing martial arts is about defending yourself mentally and physically. Because bullying both at school and cyber harassment has become a huge problem, developing skills, to teach young people respect and tolerance is crucial.

The Bully Buster program is geared at youth in the range 5-8 and 9-15 years of age, working through role playing, discussion and training. The underlying philosophies of martial arts, taught at the school, instill respect, control and balance compliment the Bully Buster program. The training is reinforced with practice offering self-assurance to the young person when confronted. Students also learn how to walk away without losing street “credibility”.

By training young people gain confidence, a lot of students start out timid and reserved. Martial arts brings out confidence to be able to use tools and techniques learned and practiced in class to prevent bullying.” Pedro Diaz, Owner

ADHD and ADD affect nine percent of American children. It does not always manifest in common symptoms such as manic states or an inability to sit still. Some children who suffer from ADHD or ADD appear to be quiet and attentive but are actually unable to stop daydreaming or listen to the lesson.

Many children participate in martial arts because it’s a fun way to exercise, parents may choose martial arts for its concentration in mental and physical strength. This makes it the perfect outlet for their child’s excess energy and to help children learn necessary life skills.
